How to build a new habit

We went down to the beach last night,

Apparently it's the most famous beach in Denmark, it has loads of volley ball courts and stuff.

The bonus is that it's 10 minutes walk from us, very cool.

Annabelle is at school now so by the time we get her home it's just after 4pm and we need to start eating dinner at 5pm if we are to get the girls to bed on time.

One of the things we promised ourselves when we moved is that we would become DOER parents.

We weren't massive not doers or anything but we would have just wasted that hour before.

Yesterday we were on course to do the same.

We got in at 4, started responding to emails, all the usual stuff that could be done another time.

Then we caught ourselves.

We grabbed the girls and went down the sea.

We only got 25 minutes but it was 25 minutes
of screaming and laughing and connecting and memory building.

Totally worth it.

Habits aren't easy to build, they require:

Attention
Intention
Repetition

We don't really have spare time,
it always get filled,
all we have is priorities,

and when you re-evaluate them, you have to commit to the new action.

It really won't just happen,

But each time it does,
It's a little easier the next time,
Your brain remembers the joy and the success,
and pushes you towards it again.
