About Ed Ley
My name is Ed Ley
I have a wife Christina and two daughters.
Our favourite places are Thollon-Les-Memise in France and Gilleleje in North Zealand and here in Copenhagen.
I grew up in a little village in England in the West Country near Bristol.
I had several paper rounds - tell me what paper someone reads and I could guess their car, house, jobs, clothes, friends and where they buy their coffee 😂
I set up a football academy when I was 15 til a school PE teacher shut us down. (I’ll tell you about that one day).
I worked my way through University polishing shop floors and painting houses. I failed two modules and had to retake due to over work and over booze.
I studied conditioning, coaching and rehabilitation.
I see no purpose in studying and not applying immediately to improve your situation. I think it’s a huge waste of time and effort that could be applied to create mastery or growth now.
After uni - I worked with athletes, pro football clubs, Dr surgeries, rehab clinics, with Osteopaths, Physios, Chiropractors.
I did personal training, injury treatment, sports massage match day prep, nutrition programming, strength and conditioning.
I worked with maybe 20 health practitioners, in 8 locations with 50-100 clients doing a different practise in each location every week for 6 years (my real degree).
I lost 70% of this business in 2008 and learned a lot.
I realised that what united all patients wasn’t health but habits.
I opened my own gym and healthcare centre in 2011 and expanded my focus onto the neuroscience of habit and performance.
In 2013 I spoke at Tedx about the behavioural change and how the health care industries approach of blaming the client is causing them (both) to fail.
I sold my business and moved to Denmark with my family in 2017. It was a very good decision.
I realised that I was an expert Entrepeneur rather that an enterprise entrepreneur - this distinction has helped me to effortlessly make some big decisions and continue to.
I read about 60 books a year probably 50-50 fiction and non-fiction. I’ve read the whole Harry Potter series and I’m currently going through the Orphan X and Jack Reacher series.
To build a network in Copenhagen I started reaching out to interesting people on social media.
I met 300 in my first year and my coaching business has been built from that.
The level referrals I have received from the danish community has been mind blowing.
I spoke at Tedx Frederiksberg in 2019 about how our use of willpower keeps us stuck repeating the same patterns of behaviour and how I used neuroscience to stop smoking, drinking, overcome shyness and a hundred other things without willpower.
I help business leaders transform their habits to optimise their physical and mental performance.
I help leaders because I see whole companies transform when I deeply impact the leadership.
There you go. You know me a little better.
